Wilmington now has a reputation to defend. Each year, dozens of homes in the city try to outdo each other in a friendly competition. And we can celebrate their hard work by driving through a vibrant, dazzling neighborhood. 

The origin of Christmas lights dates back to 1882. History credits Edward Johnson, a friend of Thomas Edison, with starting the Christmas light tradition. The original idea behind these lights was to signify the light of Jesus. 

Today, people are more creative than ever with their Christmas lights displays to spread holiday spirit.
