Weekend Happenings: October 20th & 21st, 2012 in the Boston Area

Here is a list of the best events and weekend happenings in the Boston area that are free or wicked cheap. There are a lot of fun things to do in the city this weekend and I think the most expensive idea on this list is $10 per person!

48th Head of the Charles Regatta: Saturday & Sunday October 20 & 21, 2012 from 8am-5pm at the Charles River. The head of the Charles Regatta is the world’s largest two-day rowing event and has been a Boston tradition for 48 years! I really like this article by Bostoninno that breaks down the best viewing spots and is a great first-timer guide. You can also head to the HOCR’s main page here for more information. Free for most viewing spots.

First Annual Faneuil Hall Street Theater Festival: Saturday & Sunday, October 20 & 21, 2012 from 11am-7pm at Faneuil Hall. Haunted Happenings Movie Series Featuring Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory: Saturday, October 20th, 2012 starting at 6:30pm on Salem Common in Salem, Massachusetts. Flat Top Johnny’s 19th Birthday on Friday, October 19th

If you are a fan of Flat Top Johnny’s in Cambridge or looking for some cheap beers on Friday, October 19th, they will be offering $4 for a craft beer and $2 for PBR’s starting at 6pm for their 19th Birthday! Considering it is a Friday night in Boston, I think it’s a pretty good deal.

Groupon: Alan Jackson at Tsongas Center This Friday, October 19, 2012 for $36

I was a little surprised and intrigued when I came across this Groupon this morning. For $36 you can receive one ticket to Alan Jackson in concert at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell for This Friday, October 19th, 2012 at 7:30pm!

It appears that as long as you and a friend(s) show up at the box office together, you will be seated together in either section 102–105 or 119–123. The good thing about this is that you and your friends can buy your respected tickets via Groupon without one person kindly pleading for repayment and being stuck if someone drops last minute (am I bringing up bad memories?)

I did do my due dilligence and did a quick google search, and on stub hub their actually wasn’t any seats available, and their wasn’t too many good deals on Craigslist, so it doesn’t seem like an excessive supply floating around for better deals. The cheapest tickets I found directly through is $60 (after fees). But feel free to search and leave in our comments below if you find a better deal to share with us!

So y’all grab your cowboy hat and bring ’em to Lowell for a good time this Friday night!

Quick Edit: Whoops, I was so excited that I forgot to mention that Groupon is an affiliate of mine, which means I get a little something for sending folks to their site. For more info, see my disclosure policy here.

Book your Megabus Trip for the Holidays now!

Megabus released their bus schedule earlier than usual, which means you can book your Megabus trip now for the holidays! The earlier you book your ticket, the better chance you have at grabbing those $1 tickets (plus .50 service charge).

I did some searching and found Boston to New York for $1 on Sunday, December 23rd & Monday the 24th, however the $1 tickets are filling up fast! The good news is there are still some good seats and deals left– so check it out if you need to travel home or to Boston during the holidays– this is a good time to buy!
