John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum: PEN/Hemingway Awards Celebration 2021

What: A virtual celebration this time around, the awards will honour the winner and finalists of the PEN/Hemingway prize for debut novels. The keynote conversation will illuminate the cultural significance of the authors and their stories and how their narratives stand for powerful voices in contemporary literature.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston: Monet and Boston: Legacy Illuminated

What: An exhibit that displays 25 masterpieces by the world famous painter Claude Monet. The exhibit covers an entire spectrum of the artist’s works and thought processes beginning with his early influences and development, his engagement with Japanese art and contrasting his works with those of his predecessor Jean-François Millet and contemporary Auguste Rodin.

Harvard Art Museums: Art Talk Live: Liberty, Equality, Sorority? A Woman Printmaker in the French Revolution

François Séverin Marceau-Desgraviers

 

What: Curatorial intern Sarah Lund leads a talk on the women who used their artistic productions during the French Revolution to participate in the politics they were excluded from because of their gender. Using the painting François Séverin Marceau-Desgraviers as a starting point, Lund unravels the layers within this picture, the Jacobin artist who made it and the woman who was involved in the print’s politics even as she remains absent from the frame itself.
