The traditional country Marshfield Fair will not be happening this year due to COVID-19, but the organizers have other plans in store, including a drive-in theater.
Beginning on Father’s Day weekend, the fair will be home to a drive-in movie theater on the weekends.
The owners of the fairgrounds, the Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society, will run the drive-in theater. Films that they’ll be showing include classics, such as Jaws. While eventually, the grounds could have 500 cars, they’ll begin with 250 cars.
Lenny LaForest, president of the Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society, said, “We hope to be back next year and we hope our longtime patrons won’t forget us and will be back with us next year.”
The Marshfield Fair has taken place at the end of August each year, since 1867. The fair typically brings more than 160,000 in it’s 10-day span. This is the first time the fair has been canceled in its history.
