The biggest concert event in New England officially called it quits. Boston Calling is an annual event that takes place every May in the Boston area. The festival was set to take place the weekend of May 22nd-24th at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Cambridge. Unfortunately, Governor Charlie Baker took to his podium this morning and announced that the stay-at-home advisory for residents of Massachusetts has been extended to May 4th which put pressure on the festival to officially dead the event.
In a statement from their website and social media page, Boston Calling organizers issued the following, “After several weeks of consultation with local and state authorities, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Boston Calling.” Additionally, “We are heartbroken; however, the health and safety of our audience, artists, partners, first responders, and staff are of the utmost importance to us, and we felt that this was the only acceptable way to move forward.”
Boston Calling Moving Forward
In spite of having a stacked card of artists scheduled to perform, that festival is making a smart decision. The coronavirus pandemic continues to reek havoc on the state. A total of 6,620 confirmed cases and 89 deaths as of Tuesday.
Still, Boston Calling organizers are encouraging fans to attend the 2021 edition. Fans should expect details about next year’s festival to be announced in the near future. There’s no guarantee at this time that acts such as the Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will return.
Organizers will reach out to ticket holders soon. They will detail some of the options available to them. This will include full refunds or rolling tickets over to next year’s event.
