Artists in residence Mary Reid Kelley and Patrick Kelley have created a graphically stylized short film for this exhibit which is a response to Titian’s masterpiece, The Rape of Europa also on display at the museum. Mary plays a range of historical and mythical characters in the film that are trapped between scenarios presented in a collage by Patrick. This new August exhibit in Boston that gives voice to the character of Europa is a must attend for all art critics and enthusiasts.

A two-day workshop that will walk you through the basics of printmaking techniques like additive, subtractive and stencil monotype. In the sessions to be conducted by artist Maxine Greij, students can be part of an interactive gathering and talk about different master prints and participate in discussions around the skill. This fun session for children is all about meeting people who were alive 4000 years ago by observing the different objects they left behind. Kids can ‘dig’ deep into the lives of ancient Egyptians, Maya, Mesopotamians and dabble with multiple archeological activities, 3D models and augmented reality to take a look at the artefacts on display in two museums in Boston. This virtual discussion tackles a work of artist Louis Delsarte’s titled Unity. The 1995 print was made during her residency at Brandywine Workshop and Archives. In this session, doctoral candidate Kéla Jackson will talk about the role of music, color and interiority in this creation.

The Civil War was a time of great strife in America and during this time, artist Winslow Homer served as a correspondent at Harper’s and created sketches of soldiers: some of those fighting on the frontlines and others of those spending a quiet moment in the camps. In a new exhibit coming up late August at the museum, art enthusiasts can take a peek into how these works shaped the artist’s later years as a watercolorist and painter. The show is also an attempt to showcase the message that Winslow wished to share about the role of artists during a time of war and conflict.
