Weekend Happenings on a Budget in Boston 9/29-9/30

Hello! As you probably know, there are so many fun and cheap (and often free!) things to do in Boston and the surrounding communities on the weekends. I compiled all the inexpensive things to do in and around the city this Saturday & Sunday, 9/29/12-9/30/12! The best news is the most expensive thing on this list is $5!!

 

Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival: Saturday, September 29th starting at noon, Columbus Ave in the South End. Enjoy jazz, latin, blues, and groove acts on three different stages stretching six blocks in the South End with music, face painting, inflatables, photos, instrument petting zoo, street vendors, and more. Free Museum Day: Saturday, September 29th. The Smithsonian Magazine is offering free admission to over 1,400 museums across the country with a museum day live ticket (2 per household). To find a participating museum and/or to claim your free ticket, please click here.

What is Fluff? Festival: Saturday, September 29th from 3-7pm, Union Square in Somerville: A tribute to the great invention known as Fluff. Free. More information, please click here.

Barnstable County Harvest Festival: Saturday & Sunday, September 29th & 30th from 12pm to 4pm at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds. The harvest festival includes live entertainment from local bands, pony rides and hayrides, local crafters and farmers, and much more. $5 per ticket and children 8 and younger are free. Belle Isle Marsh: Sunday, September 30th from 1-3pm in Belle Isle Park in East Boston. Enjoy live music, horse drawn hayrides, pumpkin decorating, live animals, touch tank of creatures, children’s art table, and more. Free. For more information, please click here.

College Day at Fenway Park: Saturday, September 29th from 11-5pm at Fenway Park (Gate B). There will be music, giveaways, and fun in fenway for college students. Free with valid college ID. For more information, please click here.

Microsoft O.A.R. And The Young Giant Concert: Saturday, September 29th in Salem, New Hampshire. Microsoft is kicking off their Salem, NH store opening with a free concert on Saturday. The first 1,500 people to enter the Microsoft Salem store on Saturday will receive two free tickets to O.A.R. And The Young Giant Concert that night. Topsfield Fair (Girl Scout Day): Saturday, September 29th at the Topsfield Fairgrounds in Topsfield, MA. All girls scouts that enter the fairgrounds in uniform (and one parent too) will receive free entry to the fair! (However, you do have to pay $10 for parking and whatever you ride and consume). For more information, please visit their website here.

Ducklings 25th Birthday: Saturday, September 29th from 10-1pm in the Public Garden. The ducklings have cheered on many different events and boston sport teams throughout their 25 years, but now it’s time to celebrate the cutest ducklings in the park as they celebrate 25 years! There will be music, magic, juggling, and more including a birthday card for Mrs. Mallard and her family! Free. For more information, please click here.

There are a lot of fun and cheap things to do in the city this weekend! Don’t worry if you try and tackle too much on Saturday, luckily you can stop by a coffee shop to celebrate National Coffee Day with a free hot coffee!

Free Museum Day on Saturday, September 29th!

On Saturday, September 29, 2012 the Smithsonian Magazine is sponsoring Free Museum Day where you and a guest can choose from over 1,400 museums to receive free admission! You must have a free museum live pass to gain free admission, and you can fill out the form ahead of time here. There is a limit to two people per household so if you plan to bring your family, you will need to pay for additional tickets (at least that is my impression).

There are a few dozen museums participating in Massachusetts alone, so please click here to find your favorite museum to visit for free this Saturday and let us know which one you decide to visit!

College Day at Fenway Park, Saturday, Sept. 29th!

This Saturday, September 29, 2012 is the second annual College Day at Fenway Park! College students can attend this event at Fenway for free with a valid college ID from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Gate B. National Coffee Day on September 29, 2012

Saturday 29, 2012 is National Coffee Day and there are a lot of free coffee to celebrate on Saturday and leading up to the big day! Below is a list of all the coffee deals you can find this week in and around Boston, Massachusetts:

Boston Extras Needed This Week!

If you have dreamed about being an extra in a music video at Fenway Park, alas your dream has come true! McEroy Films are looking for extras for a Brian Evans music video that will be shot at Fenway Park after the game, roughly around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. You need to plan to stay for roughly four hours and wear Red Sox type gear. his is unpaid, but light refreshments will be served. For more information and/or to reserve your spot, please click here.

Also, through a tweet, I noticed a casting call in the North Shore for guys and gals between 20-35 who are “urban cool”. I’m a little confused on when exactly this is happening, but if you are interested you can go here for more information.

Free Bloomin’ Onion at Outback Again!

Ryan Newman placed in the top 10 at another NASCAR race over the weekend, which means another FREE Bloomin’ Onion. If you are heading to the Outback Steakhouse tonight, be sure to mention the name Ryan Newman when ordering to receive a FREE Bloomin’ Onion with any purchase. You just need to purchase something in order to get this freebie– even a soda or alcohol counts and this is valid on take-out orders too!

Free Coffee in Boston starting September 24, 2012!

Stop by City Hall Plaza on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. to visit the Baileys Mobile Cafe for giveaways and to enjoy a free cup of coffee with Baileys coffee cream until 2pm! So if you need a little mid-day pick-me-up make sure you stop by City Hall Plaza! You can find more information here.

Allston Street Fair is Sunday, September 23, 2012!

Tomorrow, Sunday, September 23, 2012 is the Allston Street Fair from noon to 6 p.m. on Harvard Avenue in Allston. This event is open to the public and all ages. The Allston Street Fair is multicultural festival that offers a wide variety of music, international foods, family entertainment, giveaways and more!
