Weekend Fun in Boston for January 26-27, 2013

I hope you all are staying warm this week! I tried to stick to the warm and cheap events this weekend as best of possible for January 26-27, 2013 in Boston & beyond. Here’s some ideas of cheap and fun things to do:

Institute of Contemporary Art: Saturday, January 26, 2013. The last Saturday of every month, the ICA is free for families (up to two adults accompanied by children 12 and under).

1369 Coffee House 20th Anniversary Celebration: Saturday, 26, 2013 from 8-5pm. In honor of their 20th Anniversary, 1369 Coffee House will be giving free food all day with music and fun at both locations. Donations to charity are appreciated. For more information, please visit here.

Red Sox Kids Nation Winterfest: Saturday 26, 2013 from 10-4pm at Fenway Park. Join a video game tournament, meet Wally the green monster, play carnival games, and even audition to sing the national anthem or be the next announcer at Fenway Park. Free.

Harvard Art Museum: Saturday, January 26, 2013. From 10am-12pm on Saturdays, Massachusetts residents can explore the museum for free with proper Mass ID.

Harvard Museum of Natural History and Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology: Sunday, January 27, 2013. Mass residents can visit the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology for free on Sundays from 9am-12pm with proof of residency.

Happy Weekend and Stay Warm!

Red Sox Kids Nation Winterfest at Fenway Park on Saturday, 1/26/13

The Weekend Fun post for this weekend is coming a little later today, but I wanted to highlight a fun event happening at Fenway on Saturday, 1/26/13, since registration ends today at 5pm for the tournament.

The Red Sox will be transforming Fenway Park suites into an arcade from 10am-4pm this Saturday for free. There will be a bracket-size video game tournament for kids 10 & under, 16 & under, and open ages. Compete for a chance to play against third baseman Will Middlebrooks and special prize too. For more information or to register, please click here.

In addition to this fun tournament, there will also be auditions to be the next “voice” of Red Sox nation with national anthem and PA announcer auditions. Pictures and autographs with Wally the Green Monster, carnival games, a bounce house, face-painting, a magician, and more will also be present at Fenway Park tomorrow.

Red Sox tickets also go on sale at 10 AM tomorrow, Saturday, January 26, 2013, and will be available online and at the box office at Fenway Park.

For more information, please see this Red Sox press release regarding this event.

Colonnade Hotel Frosty Fridays: Pay what the temperature is outside on Friday Night

There is no denying it is cold out. However, why not benefit a little bit from the freezing weather. As mentioned earlier in the week? Davio’s is giving away free spring rolls when the temperatures are below freezing. Now there is a great deal for those that need a hotel over a weekend this winter too.

The Colonnade Hotel is offering their Frosty Friday special, where guests pay what the temperature is on Friday night at 5pm, when they stay on Saturday night at a rate of $309. For instance, if it is 20 degrees out on Friday night, guests pay $20 on Friday and then $309 on Saturday, which makes the two-day weekend visit $164 per night. And f you stay during negative weather, you will receive a free credit at the restaurant for that evening!

This special promotion is valid until March 30, 2013, but the hotel recommends that you check the farmers almanac and reserve your room early as this promo is popular. So pack your bags, and pray for cold weather.

For more information about the Colonnade Frosty Fridays, please visit here.

Panera Cares Boston opens Today, January 23, 2013!

Panera Cares

It’s funny, I was just thinking about Panera Cares this morning and wondering when they would open. Then I logged onto twitter, and read this article and learned Panera Cares Boston was opening today! Good timing.

Panera Cares Boston is the fifth non-profit restaurant opened by Panera Bread and is located in Government Center at 3 Center Plaza. If you are not familiar with the Panera Cares concept, Panera Cares allows patrons to pay what they can afford.

There are no cash registers at Panera Cares in Government Center. Simply stop in, order what you like, and pay what you can. There will be bins with suggested donations for customers to donate. If you don’t have it, you don’t need to pay anything. However, if you have a little extra, consider paying a little more to help someone who can’t.

Panera Cares is a great way to pay-it-forward and help out the community. I’m really looking forward to stopping in and paying it forward when I can.
