Happy (almost) weekend! Here’s a few ideas of budget-friendly and/or free events in the Greater Boston area for the second weekend in 2014! If you missed my post about Free Ice Skating at Boston Common Frog Pond, that would be such a great cheap weekend fun activity this weekend or for future weekends!

Road to Sochi Tour: Friday, January 10th to Sunday, January 12th, 2014 at Boston Common Frog Pond. Get excited about the Olympics and head to Boston Common to try out your Olympic skills with fun games and more. Free.

Healthy Snacks Roadshow 2014: Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 10am-2pm at BodyScapes Fitness Gym in Brookline. Enjoy free healthy snack sampling, fitness demos, and more. Free. More info via BostInno’s article.

Mass Appeal Winter Concert: Sunday, January 12th, 2014 at 3pm at the Arts at the Armory in Somerville. Mass Appeal is an a cappella group of local ladies who love to sing. Free.

Harvard Museum of Natural History: Massachusetts residents are admitted free every Sunday morning from 9am to Noon year-round with proof of residency.

Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology: Massachusetts residents are admitted free every Sunday morning from 9am to Noon year-round with proof of residency

Winter Trails: Free Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing: Saturday, January 11, 2014. Over 100 resorts and Nordic centers nationwide offer a chance to try snowshoeing and cross country skiing for free.  To find a participating Winter Trails location near you, please head here. (Note: Every resort may offer something a little different, so make sure to read the details for each one).

In addition to these great Boston/Massachusetts weekend events, Ski NH is offering a great chance to ski and snowboard for free this week, January 11-17, 2014. For more information or to get started, please head here.

Also, just a heads up, the Annual No Pants Subway Ride will take place this Sunday, January 12th in the afternoon…

And most importantly, The Patriots take on the Indy Colts at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night! GO PATS!!! Hope you have a great weekend!

As you may know, The Prudential US Figure Skating Championship is currently behind held in Boston from Sunday, January 6, 2014 to Sunday, January 12, 2014. The US Figure Skating Championship is the nation’s most prestigious annual championship and was last held in Boston in January of 2001.

If you’d like to see Olympic hopefuls at the T.D. Garden, there is a promo code available for the US Figure Skating Championship Opening Ceremonies and Ladies Short on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Use promo code FIRSTNIGHT to receive buy one, get one free tickets.

You should see “got an offer code?” and a drop down from full-price ticket that says select Buy 1, get 1 and it will prompt you to enter the promo code FIRSTNIGHT. Tickets start at $25.00 + $14-$15 in service charges, which would make two tickets $53.10 after the promo code and fees.

Happy first weekend of 2014! What are you doing this weekend? I am traveling for a belated Christmas party on Friday, and hopefully the weather won’t cancel or delay my trip too much! However, if you are hoping for an extended weekend thanks to Mother Nature, I’ll cross my fingers for you :)

Bank of America’s Museum on Us Weekend: Saturday and Sunday, January 4-5, 2014. Bank of America & Merrill Lynch cardholders can get into select museums the first weekend of every month for free by showing their bank card (per cardholder, not family). Museum of Fine Arts, MIT Museum and other museums across the state participate.

Free Admission for Kids at Zoo New England: Saturday and Sunday, January 4-5 2014. Kids can get free admission (with a paid adult) at both Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo for the first weekend of 2014!

Free Ice Skating at the Boston Harbor Hotel: Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 1-4pm at the Boston Harbor Hotel. The rink opens up for the first time this season, so stop by for some free ice skating.

SoWa Holiday Market: December 14 & 15, 2013 at the Benjamin Franklin Institute, 41 Berkeley Street. Find local and handmade gifts at the SoWa Holiday Market with an array of options and crafters! $5, children under 12 are free.

Craftboston Holiday Show: December 6-8, 2013 at Hynes Convention Center. Over 200 exhibitors will be present to offer great presents this holiday season. General Admission is $15, but half-off tickets are available through Goldstar Boston (affiliate link).

Holiday Arts & Eats at Assembly Row: December 6-8, 2013 at Assembly Row in Somerville. Check out this local holiday market with food truck, Etsy designers, musicians, and more!  Adult tickets range from $5-$15, but enter to win two free VIP Tickets, giveaway ends on 12/5/13 at 3pm.

Happy Thanksgiving! The Cheap Weekend Fun post is up a day early because I won’t be blogging or posting tomorrow and I hope you have a chance to plan your weekend a little early too!

If you are participating in Black Friday on 11/29/13, check out this post here for all the Black Friday hours just for Massachusetts. They are a little different than the rest of the nation due to blue laws.

Also, Meter Parking in Boston is actually free from Thursday, November 29, 2013 to Sunday, December 1, 2013 due to holiday parking and a city incentive, so please don’t pay any meters this weekend! Check back here on the blog Friday for more information!
