Boston Athenæum’s Open House: Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 9-4PM at Boston Athenæum. Enjoy this 4th Annual Open House with a rare chance to step beyond the red leather doors and access the library’s members-only areas.

Free Cruise to George’s Island: Saturday, October 14, 2017. Save the Harbor is sponsoring a free cruise to George’s Island on Saturday. Must RSVP.

MassArt Family Day: Saturday, October 14, 2017. Drop in for fun interactive activities and art-making designed by MassArt students, faculty, and staff. Free and open to the public, recommended for 6+.

Fort Point Fall Open Studios: October 14-15, 2017 from 12-6PM. Numerous art galleries and artist buildings in Fort Point will be opening their studio doors this weekend for a free viewing.

Revere Beach Fall Festival: Sunday, October 15, 2017. Head to Revere Beach on Sunday for a Fall Festival at 10:30AM after their Great Pumpkin Dash with children activities, pumpkin decorating, and more!

Wicked Winter Wine Fest: October 14-15, 2017 in the South End. Enjoy this fun wine tasting event with discount tickets through Goldstar Boston starting at $9 (affiliate link).

Sausage Fest at SoWa Open Market: Saturdays and Sundays through October from 10-4pm. Enjoy the largest celebration of local artists, farmers, chefs, musicians, and more in Boston + a celebration of sausages this weekend!

Greenway Open Market: Every Saturday (and 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month) from 11-6pm until October. Enjoy handmade local arts and crafts, food trucks, and more!

Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology: Massachusetts residents are admitted free every Sunday morning from 9am to Noon year-round with proof of residency

Free Bananas on Tuesday Morning in Boston

Free Bananas in BostonApparently Tomorrow, October 3, 2017 is National Fruit at Work Day. Who knew?

A San Francisco-based Fruit Delivery company, The Fruit Guys, will be celebrating by handing out free bananas to commuters on Tuesday morning.

The company will be handing out over 5,000 bananas on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 6AM to 11AM at five different locations in Boston.

Look for “Banana Ambassadors” in bananas costumes at Copley Square, Boston Common, Faneuil Hall Hubway Station, Downtown Crossing, and South Station. They will be giving out a banana for you, and a banana to give to a friend with their “Get a Piece, Give a Piece” promotion.

Here’s some great apple & pumpkin picking and fall activities at local farms within an hour or so from Boston:

Belkin Family Lookout Farm, South Natick

  • Train rides, farm animals, hay pyramid, farm maze, children caterpillar rides, weekend hayrides, and more!
  • Open daily from 10-5pm
  • Weekend/holiday rate: $16 for adults, $14 for children under 12; Weekday admission is $12, children under 2 are free
  • Afternoon Special: FREE admission Monday-Friday from 3-5pm (does not include holidays) with a purchase of any fruit bag
  • Fruit bags are $14 small, $22 medium, and $36 large

Dowse Orchards, Sherborn

  • Apple picking: $16 for a half peck bag
  • Open 10-5pm on weekends (weekend only)

Highland Farm, Holliston

  • Apple picking available 10-5pm, closed on Monday and Tuesdays, no public bathrooms

Honey Pot Hill Orchards, Stow

  • Barnyard animals, corn maze, hayrides, pick your own, and more
  • Apple picking & pear picking: $18 for 10/lb medium bag (gets 2 adults and 1 child into orchard), $28 for 20/lb large bag (gets 2 adults & 3 children into orchard), $6 per extra person, cash or check only
  • Open daily 9:30-5pm for pick your own
  • Corn maze prices vary, hayride $2 per person and under 2 are free (no strollers or wagons allowed on hayride, strollers only allowed to and from Lot E)

Carver Hill Orchard, Stow

  • Unconfirmed prices for 2016=7 picking season
  • Open daily 10-5pm

Pickard Farm, Littleton

  • Tractor drawn hayride (weekends only) and pumpkin patch
  • Pumpkin picking: pumpkin prices vary, over 15 acres of pumpkins (no admission charge or parking charge)

Parlee Farms, Tyngsboro

  • Pick your own, hayrides, farm animals, pumpkin patch, hay play area, and more!
  • Apple picking: $25 for 1 peck bag and includes admission for max of 4 people + hayride, $35 for 1/2 bushel bag and includes admission for max of 6 people + hayride, $5 for each additional person, infants are free (save 10% for weekday visits)

Cider Hill Farm, Amesbury

  • Corn Maze, pumpkin patch, amusement area, hayrides, farm animals and more every weekend in September & October
  • Apple picking: $20 or a 10-12/lb peck bag, $40 for 1/2 bushel bag 24/lb bag, and $45 for 1/2 bushel basket.
  • Apple picking is open daily from 8-5PM, last admission is at 4:15PM
  • Children Festival: Weekends 10-4pm, $12 for children and free for children under 2 and adults

The Big Apple, Wrentham

Ward’s Berry Farm, Sharon

The only organic apple farm I could find in the Greater Boston area, Old Frog Pond Farm in Harvard, MA but they are finished with apple picking for the year.

National Coffee Day Deals and Freebies in Boston

 

Free Coffee Image Friday, September 29, 2017 is National Coffee Day and many local and national companies are celebrating with free and inexpensive coffee this Friday!

Here’s where you score free and almost free coffee for National Coffee Day on Friday in Boston and beyond:

  • Fairmont Copley Plaza: Free cups of cold brew coffee and mini donuts via hotel cart on Dartmouth Street from 7-9AM, while supplies last
  • Marylou’s: Any size, any flavor hot coffee for half price on Friday
  • Dunkin’ Donuts: Get a free medium hot coffee when you purchase a medium or larger hot coffee
  • Cumberland Farms: Text the FREECOFFEE to 64827 on Thursday for a free hot or cold coffee mobile coupon

Metro also did a similar free coffee post that you may want to check out. There’s a few coffee shops that they had their list that I couldn’t find more information on, so I didn’t feel comfortable adding above, but you may be able to take advantage of them as well!
